Starting off 2007

We rang in the 2007 with Mario's family at his sister's house - the house with a pool! January 1st the whole country was struck with a heat wave and I woke up at 8am sweating and we spent the rest of the day in the pool trying to cool down! Mario couldn't find his own shirt so tries one of his nephew's....

On the 2nd we headed to the province of Cordoba tagging along to Esteban's family vacation. We rented a little cabin in Santa Maria de Calamuchita - It was a really great place a couple of blocks from the river. We took long walks, long naps, and swam a lot. It was fantastic!

Santiago and Pablo in the pool.
About 15 minutes away is Villa General Belgrano - a small town settled be German immigrants that has retained a strong German influence.

Including a penchant for all things dwarf-related???

Mario took me to La Cumbrecita - this very pictoresque village at the summit of one of the mountains. The road up is rather windy, steep, and pot-holed, and once you arrive they make all visitors park their cars at the entrance an enter on foot... It's kind of like the Disneyland of nature. Little shops, retaurants, a few houses, and then you can divert off on nature trails. The water was FREEZING but after hiking to the waterfall we both jumped in.According to the phamplet and map we were given the town was settled by a German immigrant and his family, and when they arrived it was lacking in plant life so they starting planting all kinds of trees, shrubs, flowers, etc. Now it's beautiful and every where you look are the most amazing flowers.
